This transformative project focused on enhancing the online rug shopping experience using an innovative Augmented Reality (AR) feature, allowing users to visualize rugs in their space by uploading a room photo. My role involved conducting user research, designing an intuitive AR interface, and refining the experience through user testing to ensure a realistic and engaging visualization. The introduction of the View in Room feature aimed to boost our conversion rate and alleviate decision fatigue, enabling customers to make confident, satisfying purchases.

User Research
In my role for the Rugs USA View in Room Experience, I was tasked with conducting user research to gain deep insights into how customers interact with our innovative AR feature. We handpicked a diverse group of customers who were not only frequent online shoppers but also had a keen interest in home decor, providing us with a well-rounded perspective. The aim was to understand the AR tool's impact on the customers' shopping journey and decision-making. I facilitated these sessions, focusing on open-ended conversations to allow customers to freely express their thoughts and preferences. Accompanied by a Data Analyst, we meticulously documented each interaction, noting both the explicit feedback and the subtler, behavioral cues. We employed a systematic approach to categorize the feedback, highlighting recurring themes and unique requests. After completing the sessions, the Data Analyst and I collaborated to distill our findings, pinpointing key trends and potential areas for enhancement. These insights, particularly the desire for features like product comparison and personalized recommendations, were pivotal in aligning our product development with the actual needs and expectations of our users. The process culminated in a comprehensive report shared with our broader team of developers and marketing strategists, ensuring that every stakeholder understood the user perspective and its influence on future developments.

The 'Enhanced Rug Comparison' tool in the Rugs USA View in Room Experience is a significant innovation, born from direct customer feedback. Identified as a key need during our initial user research interviews, this feature significantly enriches the online rug shopping experience. It allows users to easily compare a new rug with their current selection, enhancing their ability to make informed decisions. This comparison is facilitated by a quick selection feature, offering a curated list of 'Similar Rugs' or 'Your Recently Viewed Rugs', which streamlines and personalizes the shopping process.
My role in this project involved leading comprehensive usability testing, working in tandem with our in-house development team and the external AR technology provider's team. This collaboration was essential in fine-tuning the feature to be intuitive and seamlessly integrated into our existing AR platform. Through iterative testing and adjustments based on real-time user feedback, we ensured the tool's functionality met our high standards for user-friendliness and effectiveness. The introduction of the Enhanced Rug Comparison tool underscores our dedication to evolving our platform in line with customer insights, improving user satisfaction, and potentially boosting conversion rates.
